Things are constantly changing in the world of the internet, and security issues are becoming increasingly more concerning.

Along with our top tips for digital security, we now recommend that all website hosting clients sign up for our monthly website maintenance package. Unfortunately, we cannot now support clients with unmaintained websites that we host, so this maintenance package is crucial for the health and upkeep of your website.

What is Website Maintenance for WordPress?

Website maintenance for WordPress websites involves updating the WordPress and any plugins you have, on a weekly basis. If this is not kept up to date, your website can suddenly experience significant problems. For example, it could suddenly lose performance due to rapid reduced loading, or you might lose critical elements such as your footer. There is also the chance that an unmaintained website could also be hacked, which means malware is added and will destroy your search engine optimisation for potentially a long time. A severe security breach can also mean the site has to be totally rebuilt. In the worst case scenario, your enquiry forms can be comprised, and enquiries are delivered to a competitor, or your website may even be unrecoverable – i.e. your site does not exist anymore.

Although we may be able to restore your website from a backup, this may be out of date or, if left too long, may not be possible at all.

Furthermore, if any of the plugins you have installed stop working, your SEO could be compromised further, your checkout may fail, or your enquiry form submissions could be redirected.

Other Types of Websites

For clients on HTML coded websites, similar problems can occur. HTML websites can also be copied and redeployed (stolen) and used under a new name.

Backups

Under our basic hosting package, which does not include maintenance, backups are carried out 4 times a year.

What Does Our Maintenance Package Include?

Although some websites will require a higher more bespoke level of service, our basic essential maintenance package includes:

  • Updating WordPress Core as soon as upgrades are launched.
  • Updating Plugins on a weekly basis.
  • Updating Themes when upgrades are launched.

Please note that as of 23rd February 2023, if a maintenance package is not undertaken, we cannot accept any liability for issues caused for website downtime, due to lack of maintenance. Please read our terms and conditions for further information.
