Peninsula Dreamscape Exhibition – Woolverstone, 5th and 6th November

iMarketing are pleased to announce we are supporting an exciting exhibition of local artists in Suffolk, to be held at Berners Hall in Woolverstone.

The exhibition, Peninsula Dreamscape, was dreamt into being by Peta Hillier, an established painter/artist based in Shotley. Her idea was to bring together a number of local artists – all working with different mediums – to highlight the extraordinary beauty and history of the Shotley Peninsula. This Viking land sits between two magnificent rivers and is home to an abundance of wildlife, ancient trees and endless footpaths to explore. In my opinion, it is one of the most sacred places in Suffolk and I feel blessed to live here.

I was very kindly invited to join the six other artists to showcase my own work, which is a combination of photography and animation. Fine art photography has been a passion of mine since studying in Nottingham over 20 years ago, and collaborating with an old friend, who has made the most magical music for me, and then putting my imagery into a sequence that shows the peninsula through different eyes, has been both incredibly challenging and a steep learning curve! However, it has been well worth the all the late nights and endless editing.

So, to publicise the event, I am writing this blog, as there is no website for people to find out the full details. It is the first year this collaboration has happened, and it is well worth visiting as it is not your typical art or craft show. Alongside artists showcasing their own work (some of which is for sale) there is also an installation aspect, where visitors are invited to participate and become part of the experience. I am a true believer that the observer is as important as the art and combining them together makes the end result a lot more interesting.

The full list of artists exhibiting is as follows:

Peta Hillier

Peta takes inspiration from the landscape, combining the impact of light and effect of line and colour. She experiments with techniques and medium often using acrylic, ink and watercolour with pencil. She tries to evoke the spirit of place and finds the lines of field edges and pathways to link to an exploration of our own. Within these painted spaces she is inspired by pre-history and the footsteps of hunter-gatherers. Her artists of choice currently include Kurt Jackson, Andy Goldsworthy and Barbara Rae.

Rachel Manning

My work will be primarily presented as looping animation to classical music, set up with a comfy chair for people to sit and watch for as long as they wish. It combines the five elements (a theme we are all working to) and looks at the peninsula through the eyes of different animals. I am also hoping, if time allows, to present a physical piece relating to each of the elements and a gallery of some of the pictures used in the animation as standalone photos. My inspiration comes from a combination of running and meditating and a fascination with the animals that live here.

Pavel Kricka

Pavel has a very varied art practice, ranging from corporate to sports to art photography and now ceramics, both thrown and hand-built. His inspiration is drawn from American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko and potters Lucie Lie and Bernard Leach. (His website can be found at www.pavelkricka.com).

Jill Hodgson

Artist and designer Jill has lived on the Shotley Peninsula for many years, and she has successfully exhibited her artwork in East Anglia in numerous galleries for more than two decades.

Her body of work explores all subject matter including landscapes, figurative and abstract.

For this exhibition she is examining the peninsula from different angles and styles, in plaster and paint. Their creation is similar to that of pargetting of old; additional depth and variations are created through the multi-layering of glazes and paints. More recently she has been exploring working with cement, creating textural sculptures.

Glen Gerrard

Glen has lived on the peninsula for nearly 30 years and has always been inspired by the surrounding fields and forests.  She has found that using dyed and painted fabrics embellished with hand stitching is the best way to echo the textures and colours all year round. Pictured below is one of her works, a picture of a cornfield on the peninsula reflecting the light and heat of a hot summer.

Luke Macaulay and Nick Carter

Details to follow.
